Romano still linking Tottenham with three deals before window closes
By Aaron Coe
As it becomes more difficult to stay patient as a Tottenham fan, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano is still linking Spurs with three deals to finish before the window closes.
With little movement occurring to date in the transfer market for Tottenham Hotspur, it is increasingly harder to believe much will happen. Most fans have seen this movie before, Spurs make an underwhelming bid for an overwhelming player, strike out, and say they tried. While that is certainly not always the case, it is the prevailing narrative around Tottenham in the transfer market.
While some previous big-money signings have not panned out, making a splash now and backing Antonio Conte could help change that narrative. According to Romano Spurs are working on making that splash and bringing in three new players.
Names we have heard with Tottenham already
None of the names are new at this point, although a signing of a previously unlinked player should not surprise us given how Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal were just signed out of almost nowhere in the summer.
The three big targets for Tottenham appear to be two wide players and a midfielder according to Romano.
Sofyan Amrabat is a defensive midfielder who Spurs would be acquiring from Fiorentina on loan, with an option to buy. Amrabat’s name has been connected with Tottenham for several days now and his lack of minutes at Fiorentina this season leaves him less desired by some of the Tottenham faithful. Overall, most seem to think if Conte wants him that is good enough.
The other two linked players split fewer opinions amongst Spurs fans. Adama Traore has become the latest, long-sought-after transfer target for Tottenham. Traore made a lot of sense when Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge and maybe makes less sense now but Conte really relies on his wide players to create, making Traore a solid option.
Luis Diaz is a newer name associated with Tottenham Hotspur but would be the real gem of the group. The 25-year-old Colombian international has been terrific with Porto FC this season in Portugal. Quick, fast, good with both his feet and willing to run at players, Diaz could immediately slot in Spurs attack playing the same role as Heung-min Son or Lucas Moura. Having had their first bid rebuffed by the Portuguese club, this is a deal that fans should really hope the club gets over the line.
Any of the three would certainly help Tottenham this season, signing all three would be a real statement of intent. Until we see the Romano here we go, it is difficult to get too excited about any of the deals but if they do happen, Spurs fans would have reason to rejoice and the transfer narrative would definitely start to change.
