Defence

Hugo Lloris 8/10

Had no chance on either goal, but was otherwise stable and strong. He made some excellent saves and was purposeful off the line. Without Lloris, this match could have turned ugly.

Ben Davies 4.5/10

Ben Davies, like the rest of Spurs defence, was under the cosh for most of the afternoon. Chasing shadows and playing in a preventative defensive shell, Davies struggled keep up with Hakim Ziyech. The ball also travelled beyond him on Chelsea’s second, with Thiago Silva taking full advantage. Unfortunately the Welshman wasn’t up to the overall level.

Eric Dier 6/10

Eric Dier, on his return to the lineup after three weeks out, was Tottenham’s best of the rearguard. He was composed and for the most part made safe and sound decisions. He committed the foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi, which led to Chelsea’s second. But it was a slightly questionable call, with barely any contact from Spurs’ defender.

Davinson Sanchez 4/10

For as well as Davinson Sanchez has played in Cristian Romero‘s absence, the Colombian is showing discernible signs lately that he’s still not up to the elite level required to play in the rearguard of a top-four team. The Colombian endured a difficult day, shanking a couple of clearances and also allowing Silva in to head home Chelsea’s second. Sanchez and Dier can take a share of the blame for Silva’s goal.
