Tottenham key five – Spurs must take their chances

Over the last couple of seasons, Spurs have dropped a number of points from winning positions. Most of the time when that has happened it was the result of Spurs not finishing their opponent when they had a chance.

If we look at the draw against Liverpool – or the loss last season – had Tottenham taken their chances they would have easily won the game.

Again this past week against Leicester City. While the nature of the victory was quite memorable and was an incredible rush, the truth of the matter is Spurs should never have been in that position in the first place. Had Kane buried one of several good looks, or Davinson Sanchez or any of the 24 shots that did not find the next had, what a difference it would have made in the game.

The reality is Tottenham is not going to get the same 27 shot attempts they did against Leicester on Sunday versus Chelsea, if Spurs are lucky they will get a dozen. The 11% finishing rate Spurs had against Leicester will not get it done against Chelsea, Tottenham must be clinical and take their chances if they are to win.

Spurs can do everything right, not beat themselves, control Lukaku, create turnovers in transition, and get Kane some opportunities but if those opportunities – for Kane or anyone else – are not buried, Tottenham is not winning.

Chelsea has been in poor form but is a strong team. Not so strong that Spurs cannot beat them, however, they have to play smart, play well, and hopefully employ our five keys to success.
