Without the threat of Son over-the-top, teams can play tighter on Harry Kane and work to force others to beat them. Thus far, outside of Son, Spurs have struggled to find consistent offense. With Kane needing to be a strong centre-forward and lead the line, Tottenham must get more push from their midfield in the attack.

Spurs need some to attack from midfield

Leicester is going to be missing Willfred Ndidi and possibly even Boubakary Soumare, leaving them thin at the defensive pivot. Tottenham needs to press that opportunity and get some thurst from midfield.

Giovani Lo Celso seems the most likely candidate to fill that role and provide some forward push. Finally healthy again, Lo Celso is one player who can do many of the things Spurs need in the attacking third with his short passes.

It is possible that Dele Alli or even Bryan Gil get the call, although we think it will be Lo Celso with the first shot. Regardless of who among the three attacking players starts, they need to step up and attack a weakened Leicester team from the midfield and give the Foxes a taste of their own medicine.

Harry Kane needs to step up for Tottenham

It seems almost heresy to say it but Tottenham Hotspur needs to get more out of Harry Kane. While I do want to see more pressing and defensive commitment, the more I’m really talking about is goals.

Through 18 games this season Tottenham only has 23 goals. That puts Spurs firmly in the bottom half of the table for goals scored and surely does not scare anyone. With Son out and likely Bergwijn as well, the pressure mounts on Harry Kane to carry the load for Tottenham.

With this game and another versus Chelsea still to come before the international break, Spurs need to get Kane firing and back to form. Even if Tottenham manages to sign some players this transfer window, unless Kane starts finding the back of the net consistently, Spurs are not going anywhere.

With a truly rested Kane ready to face a somewhat weakened Leicester City side, Spurs should be all in on getting their talisman back to form. A couple of Harry Kane goals and three big points is exactly what Tottenham needs, now they just need to go do it.
