2. Lucas Moura

How can anyone deny Lucas’ spot on this coveted list? Disregarding for a second his current rich vein of form, Lucas was responsible for the greatest, most meaningful comeback in club history. I’m sure nobody needs to be reminded of the specifics, but it’s fun to reminisce. Moura’s hat trick in Amsterdam, which included the historic injury-time winner, pole-vaulted Spurs to the Champions League final. A match and a moment that can never be replicated or trumped, Moura earned an indelible place in club folklore. That alone guaranteed his spot on this list. Oh, what a night!

Now, back to present day. Moura certainly hasn’t had it all his own way since joining Tottenham from PSG for £25 million in 2018. Jose Mourinho never consistently started Moura in the top flight, hamstringing Moura’s progression. In Mourinho’s defence, the Brazilian has been plagued by inconsistency at Spurs, but, under Antonio Conte, is fulfilling his abundant potential. Now a guaranteed starter, Moura is one of Conte’s most valuable players.

Pochettino deserve bundles of praise for securing Moura. He cost about the same as Ryan Sessegnon, albeit three years early. But still. Wow. It’s hard to tell if it’s more a case of the Moura deal being incredibly good or the Sessegnon one being woefully bad. A bit of both, I suppose.
