 Son’s injuries at Tottenham

October 2015 — Foot injury

Sonny suffered a foot injury in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat of Manchester City on Sept. 30, 2015. The undisclosed foot injury kept him out of the lineup for about six weeks, until his Nov. 5 return. He missed six matches in all competitions. Son bagged an assist in the Europa League against Anderlecht in Tottenham’s 2-1 win upon his return to the side.

Son then put together a string of almost five years without suffering an injury, a testament to the South Korean’s fitness and durability.

February 2020 — Fractured arm

Son scored a brace including a late winner in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Feb. 16, 2020. He did so while playing with a fractured arm. The injury occurred when Son fell awkwardly in the early stages of the match. It was clear after the match that Son had endured one of the worst injuries of his career.

The South Korean required surgery and was in jeopardy of missing the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. That was until Covid-19 intervened. Sonny missed six matches in all competitions before the season was postponed indefinitely due to the onset of the pandemic. Son returned to the lineup against Manchester United on April 19, 2020, upon the restart of the Premier League.

You might recall that Son’s fractured arm occurred the week before Spurs met RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16. Without Son, Tottenham were brushed aside 4-0 on aggregate by an upstart, energetic Leipzig side.

September 2020 — Hamstring

A relatively minor hamstring injury kept Son out of the team for two matches early in the 2020-2021 season.

March 2021 — Hamstring

Another minor hamstring issue kept Son out of two Tottenham matches and an international with South Korea. He was out for a couple of weeks with a minor strain.

September 2021 — Calf Strain

Another minor muscle issue kept Sonny out of a Europa Conference League match (2-2 draw with Rennes) and a Premier League encounter at Crystal Palace, which Spurs lost 3-0.
