Spurs Substitute and Coach Rating

Tottenham used all three substitutes, including the first at half-time as Spurs looked for but never officially found the game-winner.

Matt Doherty – 6

Coming on for Reguilon at the half, Matt Doherty had a few nice opportunities but was never able to capitalize on them. His best chance was at about 69 minutes when he overlapped past Son in the box. Unfortunately, his first touch was a bit stiff, leaving Doherty stretching with the outside of his right foot to shoot – or pass – toward the goal, which Forster blocked for a corner. Doherty had three different wild volley attempts and forced Forster to drop the ball into the net but was called for a foul. Active just lacking that bit of quality.

Lucas Moura – 5

After being Spurs best player against Palace, Lucas Moura never could get going in his near 30 minutes on the pitch after coming on for Dele. The effort was clearly there but the execution was just a bit off like when he whiffed on a shot attempt in the box but still recovered in got off a cross. Not enough space to do what he does best.

Bryan Gil – N/A

Coming on with just over 10 minutes to go in the game for Emerson Royal, Bryan Gil had a couple of positive moments but like the rest of the team lacked that magic to score. Bryan stayed on the right – and Doherty on the left – allowing him to cut back and put a couple of left-footed crosses into the box from the right side. Gil had one decent effort which Forster tipped over.

Coach Antonio Conte – 6

With his team playing less than 48 hours after their previous match we knew we would see a bit of fatigue from his squad. However, Spurs were being bullied by Southampton until the red card and penalty completely changed the match. Surely unhappy with the first half, his team just could not find a way in the second against a packed-in defence. Still unbeaten in the league but we are all disappointed with a draw against a 10-man side. Not sure why he did not switch Gil and Doherty after Gil came on.
