Tottenham forward ratings

Tottenham had more zip and aggression in the attack in the first half as the team was much more conservative in the second period. The three frontmen did enough on a day that was short on highlights but heavy on hard work.

Left forward – Steven Bergwijn – 8

Steven Bergwijn would have been the player of the game for Tottenham if not for the goalkeeping heroics of Hugo Lloris. Bergwijn had some rough early touches but settled into the match as the game wore on. Bergwijn worked hard to provide hold-up play all over the pitch, including in the Hammer’s penalty box, where he combined in a one-two passing movement with Pierre Hojbjerg to score Spurs’ first goal. It was Bergwijn’s persistent effort and willingness to stay on his feet that led to a soft pass across the six and the game-winner. Certainly a good effort from the Dutchman.

Centre forward – Harry Kane – 6.5

Harry Kane grafted hard on the day but had little to personally show for that work. He did have one half-chance early which he hit well with his left foot and on-target. However, Alphonse Areola was up to the task with a big double-fisted block. Kane worked to help defend and keep the defenders in front of him but got little service on the day.

Right forward – Lucas Moura – 7.5

After not starting against Liverpool, Lucas Moura was looking to attack and do something against West Ham. Moura played an exceptional pass early to Kane beyond and around multiple defenders to give Harry his only real look at the goal. Moura did well coming in to finish Bergwijn’s square ball in the box for the game-winner. Like Kane, Lucas worked hard on both ends and is rounding back into form.
