Three main signs of progress in Tottenham draw against Liverpool
By Gary Pearson
3. Creating bundles of scoring chances
It wasn’t too long ago when Spurs went over four hours without registering a shot on target. That woeful streak ended against Leeds, which coincided with Conte’s first win in charge of Spurs.
Today saw a marked difference in the dynamism of Tottenham’s attack. Son, Dele and Kane terrorized Liverpool’s defence, a backline that dearly missed Virgil van Dijk’s indomitable presence.
Tottenham’s counter attack was dangerous throughout, with Harry Winks playing the unlikely role of provider on numerous forays. Had Tottenham shown more composure in front of goal, we’d be discussing a historic victory. Each of Tottenham’s forward trio had enough golden chances to score a brace, a far cry from the anemic and disjointed attack we witnessed just over a month ago.
Now Conte needs Kane, Son and whomever plays as the third forward to make the most of their chances. If that piece falls into place, Tottenham will be able to once again strike fear into even the most accomplished Premier League rearguards.
