Three keys to how Tottenham Hotspur will beat Norwich
By Aaron Coe
There are points in the season where teams have to simply earn full points. For Tottenham Hotspur Sunday’s match versus Norwich is exactly that type of match, here is how Spurs will win.
The reality is while Norwich is dangerous and can pose problems, Tottenham is simply a better side and should be able to win at home. With the proper attitude and right approach, Spurs should win and turn back-to-back victories into a winning streak.
Spurs need to attack Norwich on the edges
Teemu Pukki may be north of 30, but Norwich is a team that plays a number of young players and this is especially true at fullback. Spurs should expect to see Brandon Williams on the left and Max Aarons on the right Sunday for the Canaries. Both Williams and Aarons are 21-years-old and can be beaten.
We can expect to see Norwich in a very defensive set-up, with likely four in the back and five in the midfield but the team tries to play compact and ends up being soft out wide.
Against Brentford, Heung-min Son and Sergio Reguilón were able to produce some good opportunities pushing up the left. Aarons is going to have his hands full dealing with a similar approach.
Tottenham needs to activate Harry Kane
The fact Tottenham has hung around the top half without Harry Kane playing well and scoring is actually a good sign. Do not get me wrong, I want and Tottenham needs Kane to score but the fact that Kane has 1 goal through 13 matches and Spurs are not dead and buried for the top four is saying something.
However, if Tottenham is going to be more than in the conversation for a Champions League place, Harry Kane is going to have to start scoring. If Spurs can get a good push from the edges, that should create some more service for Kane. Seeing some service along with some post-up opportunities should help get Spurs talisman back in the goals.
Tottenham needs to jump on Norwich and then step on their throat
In football, there is almost nothing more dangerous than a team with confidence and that is something Norwich is working toward. With a four-match unbeaten run in league play, Norwich is finally playing the kind of football their fans were anticipating when they won promotion.
If Norwich can get through the initial stages of the match, even to half-time without Spurs scoring, whether or not the Canaries score, will give Norwich real confidence. The longer Tottenham fails to score and the game stays close the better that favors Norwich.
Spurs need to start with pressure and work to maintain that pressure and intensity for the full 90 minutes. Chelsea scored four of their seven after the break and Manchester City scored three of their five in the last 45.
If Tottenham can consistently pressure and not let Norwich believe they have a chance, Spurs can assert their dominance and win the game. The best way to provide that pressure and deflate the Canaries is by creating some service and getting Kane in the goals.
