Antonio Conte is faced with selection dilemmas after an international break that saw a few of Tottenham’s first team players go down with various injuries.

Tottenham’s injury update

Pierre Hojberg suffered an injury after a reckless, sinister Mason Holgate challenge in the 0-0 stalemate at Goodison against Everton. Holgate was sent off after VAR confirmed the abominable, malicious nature of the two-footed, lunging challenge.

‘Injury expert’ Ben Dinnery has claimed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s injury might be more serious than initially suspected, though that school of thought, until Friday’s update, is mere conjecture. The dogged midfielder missed out on both of Denmark’s World Cup qualifiers, putting his presence in serious doubt.

Losing Hojberg for any period of time would be extremely costly for a Spurs side in desperate need of the Dane’s stability, defensive awareness, leadership and tireless work rate. The question mark over his fitness comes at an inconvenient time for Spurs, who are also without Oliver Skipp for Sunday’s home encounter. Skipp misses out through suspension after picking up a fifth yellow card against the Toffees.

Cristian Romero pulled up lame against Brazil with a suspected hamstring injury and is a major doubt. It’s highly unlikely Romero will take part against Leeds, as hamstring injuries, no matter how serious, need time to repair. Unless it’s the most minor of strains, four days is too short a timespan for Romero to recover. Erring on the side of caution, especially where hamstrings are concerned, is the prudent move.
