Spurs Projected Midfield

At this point, the only question about the Tottenham midfield seems to be who is going to be in the attacking midfield position. Santo technically has a lot of options but none have completely made the position their own, although Tanguy Ndombele has come close.

Oliver Skipp – Defensive Midfield

Oliver Skipp continues to grow and it almost seems an afterthought that he is going to be in the line-up. Occasionally, Skipp will surprise with something new on the attacking side of the ball. Mostly, however, Skipp is usually in a position to stem any potential breakaways. A willing runner and sure tackler, Skipp has been a real bright spot in a cloudy season.

Pierre Hojbjerg – Defensive midfield

Pierre Hojbjerg has been playing in a box-to-box role for most of the season and it has suited him well. Interestingly, Hojbjerg was less forward-thinking against West Ham and seemed to sit more often than he has in other games. Against a strong attacking team like United, it is possible that could happen again. However, for Tottenham to compete and win they have to be more aggressive and score more goals. To do that they need Hojbjerg to get into the attacking third.

Tanguy Ndombele – Attacking midfield

Tanguy Ndombele has seemingly locked down the attacking midfield position, although his overall production – two goals in all competitions – leaves plenty to be desired. Ndombele is not necessarily on the field for his goals, although they would be nice to have more often, it is supposed to be for his passing. With zero assists on the season, Ndombele has not been creating the kind of chances for others that is expected and that needs to change.
