Tottenham Hotspur player ratings from 1-0 loss at West Ham United

Tottenham Defensive Ratings
Tottenham did not play terribly defensively, allowing only a few looks at the goal. However, a series of poor decisions led to a corner kick, and then a lack of effort from Harry Kane led to an easy Antonio goal and the West Ham victory.
Sergio Reguilon – 6
Sergio Reguilon was having himself a decent enough game until he wasn’t. Reguilon was the only real outlet for Tottenham from long passes. Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son were all so tightly bunched in the middle of the pitch there was no room for passes between the lines, leaving Reguilon with space and room. Reguilon had several crosses but none were quite good enough to lead to a goal. Sergio seemingly made a great play stepping in and intercepting a pass at the top of the box, only to lose the ball trying to pass and run around a defender right in front of his own goal. Spurs were lucky not to concede right then but it led to the corner, which produced the goal. Reguilon was removed with 5 minutes to play as Nuno continues to show he has no clue.
Eric Dier – 6.5
There was nothing that Eric Dier did particularly bad on the day but then again there was nothing that he did that was particularly good. Absent for the good long balls out of the back to forward and midfielders. Instead, Dier spent most of the afternoon playing five-foot passes back and forth with Pierre Hojbjerg. Had a nice block in the first half and competed.
Cristian Romero – 7
If there is one defender for Tottenham who should be on the field it is Cristian Romero. The Argentine is all action all the time and willing to take some risks to try and win the ball. Received a yellow that never should have been but continued to play aggressively. Maybe could have done better leading the break one time but Kane wasted the effort and at least Romero did not fall down like some other folks did midweek.
Emerson Royal – 6
Emerson Royal had a quiet day overall. After being a regular outlet for Spurs for the last several weeks Royal was in a more conservative position much of the game as Tottenham focused on driving up the left. Royal was okay defensively but provided little push allowing Aaron Cresswell to push far too much up the pitch.
Hugo Lloris – 6.5
Hugo Lloris was okay in the goal for Spurs making a couple of nice first-half saves. He got down well to block a good Jarrod Bowen shot. Lloris did well in the air, getting a fist on a corner to keep it out of harm’s way, and came off his line like a younger man beating Antonio to a long ball in the box. Lloris had little chance on the bang-bang play that was the Hammer’s goal, however.
