Tottenham again maybe missing several South American players

We do not know exactly how things are going to work but thanks to the previous fiasco and more clubs being involved, players have a modified 10-day quarantine returning from playing matches in red list countries in South America.

The modification is the quarantine is exempted for outdoor practice and of course outdoor games. This change is something Tottenham could have really used a month ago but instead, they will have to accept the small favor of having a Sunday match.

Since Spurs are playing Newcastle on Sunday, the player who all played on Thursday in South America will have had more than two full days between the matches. Having more than 60 hours between kickoffs, along with the modification in covid regulations makes it possible Tottenham’s South American’s can play.

Between Emerson Royal (Brazil), Davinson Sanchez (Colombia), and Cristian Romero (Argentina) that is likely at least half of the preferred starting defence for Tottenham. Adding in Giovani Lo Celso, who again shined on international duty, makes for a potentially damaging loss if those four players are not at least available.

Hopefully for Tottenham, with the greater time gap for player recovery and the relaxed rules related to the players returning from international duty, at least some of the four will be available. If not, Tottenham could again be missing seven or more players as they head into Newcastle, who is playing their first game under new ownership.

The potential absence of the defenders is particularly damaging given Davies has been out for long and Matt Doherty seems to have picked up a knock in his most recent outing with the Republic of Ireland and is likely unavailable for the next couple of weeks.

Next. Spurs biggest disappointments so far this season. dark
