Player actions speak louder than words at Tottenham Hotspur

Given Tottenham has always been an injury or two away from disaster with the thin squad available, when players make intentional decisions that leave them unavailable for the team it really, hurts.

While the allure, prestige, and honor, of playing for one’s country are obvious, as is the desire to qualify for the World Cup. However, it is the club that makes so much possible for so many, including the lifestyles of luxury many of them lead. This again makes the intentional decision to not be available for the team that pays one’s wages really difficult to deal with.

Tottenham alone cannot fix the situation with Covid, South American players, or their availability, they can exert some more control over their employees and find ways to make them available. Liverpool did not send any Brazilians during the September break and was definitely rewarded for it with player availability, Tottenham did not enjoy it.

Spurs really need to figure out who wants to be at Tottenham to play and give it all for the club and who simply wants to be a professional footballer. Spurs need far more of the former and far fewer of the latter.

Hopefully, the international work with not continue to be a problem but until the club figures out some better arrangement, it likely will continue to disappoint.

Next. Pleasant surprises in Spurs season thus far. dark
