The answer for Spurs defence: Cristian Romero – C+

Cristian Romero was definitely the biggest name of all the summer signings, coming to Spurs initially on loan from Atalanta. Romero was named the top defender in Serie A last season and at times it is easy to see why.

Romero is a big defender who is strong in the air and despite his length is quite agile on his feet. His agility helps with his typically timely tackles as well as his comfort with the ball at his feet.

While his passing has not quite been as sharp as we would like to see yet for Spurs, there is no doubt that his ability to hold and shield the ball with confidence and play under some pressure will continue to improve and help the team.

Romero has played more than 530 minutes across seven appearances for Tottenham already and including starts in two of the last three Premier League matches. Perhaps the biggest issue with Romero thus far has been his availability which was limited due to injury and then his participation with Argentina in World Cup qualifying.

Despite his clear abilities, Romero could do with ingratiating the fanbase a bit and showing this club is a priority. It is this lack of availability, which is likely going to extend to Newcastle next weekend that has Romero with just a C for Spurs so far.
