Nuno’s best current starting 11 at Tottenham Hotspur
By Gary Pearson
Midfield:
Oliver Skipp deserves his starting spot in Nuno’s side.
Spurs have won four of five matches with Oliver in the first team
. The only blip on Skipp’s record came against Crystal Palace, though that abject display was more down to injuries and an untimely sending off than the Englishman’s personal performance. He provides extra insurance, allowing Pierre Hojberg, one of the first men on Nuno’s team sheet, to advance more freely.
Both of Spurs’ defensive central men provide the threesome in front the license to create. Son Heung-min, Tanguy Ndombele and Lucas Moura form a formidable trio, though Ndombele is still plagued by inconsistency. He is still the best man for his particular job, as Dele Alli too often plays at a pedestrian pace, while Giovanni Lo Celso has recently fallen off the mark. Lo Celso is also more suited to play slightly more defensively, though he faces stiff competition in that area of the park.
It’s a toss up when choosing between Moura and Steven Bergwijn. The Dutchman started the season well before he twisted his ankle, while Moura’s pace and directness offers a different weapon than Son, who is an all-round sensation.
Son, like Tottenham’s front man, are both automatic selections on Nuno’s team sheet.
Attack:
Whether Harry Kane is in top form or not matters little when Nuno decides on his starting 11. Even when he plays at 50 percent of his top ability, Kane is a shoo-in to lead Tottenham’s line. Kane is yet to score this season, but it’s only a matter of time before he puts an end to his current Premier League scoring drought.
Spurs’ talisman bagged a hat trick during a cameo appearance against Mura in the Europa Conference League and showed signs of breaking his Premier League duck against Villa, though he still clearly lacks his usual cutting edge and indomitable assuredness in front of goal.
