Tottenham Forward Ratings

Tottenham started a much different front line than they have in previous matches, with none of the regular first-team starters in the attack from the off. It was a nice opportunity for youngsters Bryan Gil and Dane Scarlett, although it was Giovani Lo Celso who shined brightest for Spurs in the match.

Bryan Gil – 6

It was great to see Bryan Gil starting for Spurs and in his preferred left-wing position. Unfortunately, the physicality and conditions led to a less than stellar performance from Gil who just did not have the same impact as we have seen previously. Gil’s first touch was not quite as strong as it has been and frankly, he just did not have a lot of space to operate. Sergio Reguilon was often pushing up behind him and both Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso at times took up space in the attack on the left. Without a lot of space and not quite at top form, it was an average outing without anything that stood out for Bryan.

Dane Scarlett – 6

Dane Scarlett was the surprise starter at striker. We had seen the teen in Conference League qualifying but not much since the regular season has begun. Scarlett looked at times rusty and at times promising. Not yet strong in hold-up play, Scarlett looks to get the ball and turn and face goal to attack. He did this well at times, including in the build-up for the first goal, and had a nice dummy and run situation as well. Just did not see enough of the ball as the crowding in the final third made service a bit more difficult to come by.

Giovani Lo Celso – 8

Giovani Lo Celso was strong for most of the 90 minutes. Pivotal in the initial effort to ake the early lead and then helped Harry Kane put the final nail in Mura’s coffin. It is a shame that it has taken almost all of September to get this kind of performance from Lo Celso after missing time with the Argentine national team. Hopefully, Lo Celso and Spurs will not suffer like that again.
