More intrigue in South America for Tottenham

First, the players were not going to be able to go at all. Then the players were only going to go for two games. Now it may be that Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso – along with two other Premier League players representing Argentina are being deported from Brazil.

Apparently, there was some mix-up with the forms with the four players from the Premier League playing for Argentina. Having not appropriately responded to the customs forms upon arrival related to whether or not they had been in the UK in the prior 14 days.

Under normal circumstances this would probably be something handled with more paperwork, however, that was not the case on Sunday. Despite knowing of the infraction for more than 24 hours, the Brazilian authorities did nothing, so the game started with both Romero and Lo Celos, along with Emiliano Martinez all starting.

About five minutes into the match officials with the Brazilian health agency Anvisa were walking on the pitch and interrupting the game. Ultimately the match was suspended and the Premier League players with Argentina are likely being deported from Brazil. What happens to the match and the points is anyone’s guess.

One thing is certain, the entire situation was handled extremely poorly by all parties and should never have gotten to the point of interrupting a match. And although Spurs fans will be hoping that both Lo Celso and Romero leave Brazil and head to Europe, that still remains to be seen.
