Sissoko Sale shows Tottenham will Negotiate

Tottenham signed Sissoko for £30 million and let’s be real, we know the club wanted as much of that back as possible. Sissoko did only have one more year on his deal, thus his valuation was much lower than anything near what Tottenham paid for him. Not to mention the Frenchman is now 32-years old.

In this situation the rumors were Spurs wanted £15 million, which was more than his valuation. However, as days and weeks of the market have gone on and teams really want to sell, well Tottenham has done just that and sold Sissoko for far less than we know the club wanted to get.

Sissoko and Kane sales clearly not the same

Of course, selling Moussa Sissoko who is on the wrong side of 30 is more about creating space in the clubhouse for other players to grow. Alternatively, Harry Kane is the club’s talisman and one of the best players in the world at his position, if not the best.

When the club wants one player to move on and is desperate to keep the other the situation is certainly different. Then again, we have seen this movie before at Tottenham and previously they have always sold. The difference with the Spurs selling Berbatov, Modric, and Bale, which they have in common with Sissoko, is the purchasing team made an offer, and then things went from there. Without a realistic opening bid to start, of course, Levy is not going to make outgoing calls to sell his best player.

Sissoko was a good soldier for the club

Moussa Sissoko was likely never going to live up to the  £30 million Spurs paid for him on deadline day. However, no one can question the effort that the Frenchman consistently gave to the club. However, having made 202 appearances and having been a major cog in the Spurs team that went to the Champions League final will keep Sissoko fondly in the eyes of many.

It is unfortunate that he got penalized for the handball that changed that final as Sissoko was so influential all season long. 9 times out of 10 that probably is not called but it is a call that all Spurs fans will remember for the rest of our lives.

An excellent clubhouse leader and clearly popular among his mates, Sissoko’s presence will be missed. However, it is time for other players to take on more leading roles in the team as the more senior leaders in the club helping the move make sense all around.

We wish Moussa good luck, just not too much this weekend as Tottenham travel to Watford.
