Tottenham Hotspur continue transfer transformation with signing
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham Hotspur has finally started that rebuild long ago whispered by Mauricio Pochettino and another big move came Friday, signing Pape Matar Sarr.
When Fabio Paratici took over as Football Director in June for Tottenham Hotspur he came in the job with three main goals pertaining to the squad. The first was to keep Harry Kane at N17 and following the big announcement this week, that was accomplished. The second and third were linked in Paratici needed to move some players out of the team to create space for the new acquisitions he needed to make. While the Spurs are still not done, Paratici showed he continues to work toward the fresh talent goal with a big signing for the future announced on Friday.
Tottenham sign young midfielder Sarr
Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of the 18-year-old Senegalize midfielder on Friday, noting that he will continue his season on loan at FC Metz.
Paratici, Tottenham looking for next Dele in Sarr
While many of the comparisons – in terms of skill and body frame, not motor – are to his fellow countryman, Paul Pogba, in signing Pape Matar Sarr, the Spurs are looking for their next Dele. When I say Dele I do not mean a player in that mold, what I mean is a young, ready-made star, who can come in and make an instant impact on the team
Sarr broke into the Metz team last season and played consistently the last half of the season playing mostly defensive midfield. By staying at Metz, Sarr can have another season to develop as a full-time starter, which benefits both the Frenchman and Oliver Skipp, with whom he would be competing for minutes.
Good move for both Pape Sarr and Olive Skipp
Having both players in starting roles in the midfield this season bodes well for the Spurs’ future. Skipp has already started twice for Tottenham this season and Sarr has started three times adding one assist. Instead of each getting less than 2,000 minutes platooning in London, both players should be looking at close to 3,000 minutes logged by the time the season is done.
It will be at that point when Sarr has almost 5,000 minutes playing in the top flight in France that the then 19-year-old midfielder will join the team and compete as part of a young but experienced midfield core. Sarr will be neither Pogba nor Dele he will be Pape Matar Sarr but his impact on the team could equal that from players of that caliber. Just how shrewd of a deal this was exactly, only time will tell.
