Another crazy day in the Harry Kane, Tottenham transfer saga
By Aaron Coe
Over the course of about 12 hours, the rumors flew, as Harry Kane was first going to sign a new deal and then was absolutely leaving, Tottenham Hotspur.
Depending on when you might have heard some of the news things were looking up for a while for Tottenham in the ongoing Harry Kane transfer ordeal. Although by the end of the day everything about Kane’s future had gone a complete 180 and had made his intentions known. The one thing we know for sure is that we really know nothing and until Manchester City steps up, this is all for naught. So what exactly happened Tuesday?
Kane signing a new Tottenham contract
It all started with a podcast as Football London duo Ali Gold and Rob Guest shared and from there, things kind of took off. The Spurs Web ran with the idea that rumors were coming out of the Harry Kane camp that the striker was open to signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
This was some news Tottenham fans could get behind
The thinking was actually quite simple, Kane signs a new deal, that deal includes a release/buyout clause, and boom, the pathway to ManchesterCity is open, the Cityzens just have to walk the path and pay the money. But nothing is ever simple and maybe this was not about a buy-out it was really about believing in Spurs’ ambition and garnering a nice fat raise.
If this was true, wow, Paratici was really doing his job as Kane was now committed to the club and likely more spending was to follow. Kane was committing his long-term future – again – to the club and this time the club was going to back him. However, as with everything, if things seem too good to be true, they probably are not.
The day ends with Kane still likely leaving Tottenham
While it is difficult to believe anything we read on Twitter that does NOT come from an actual club, the good news did not last for Tottenham. Several City related sources started sharing a different story a few hours after the contract renewal story broke.
Only the club and Kane know what really is happening
The bottom line at this point with Harry Kane is that only Kane and the club really know what the situation is. Just as the day before ‘rumors’ of a big announcement coming could indicate a new contract or could be another golf course. Outside of a few references to Kane by Nuno, the club has been particularly quiet about Kane’s situation, which is another worrisome sign but could also just be business.
With three weeks to go in the transfer window, the scary part is this could go on like this for a further three weeks. Kane is staying, Kane is going, either way, we the fans all suffer. Until the window closes or a real bid comes in, this is likely to be the story each day, Kane is going to go, well unless he stays.
