Paratici provides Tottenham inside track to signing Barcelona midfielder
By Gary Pearson
Purchased by Barcelona for about £50 million in a swap deal with Juventus for Arthur Melo, Pjanić would ordinarily cost Tottenham about £40 million. But Barcelona is cash strapped and will accept a slashed rate to offload the Bosnian. There is even reports that Pjanić might leave on a free transfer, an outcome Barcelona will do everything possible to avoid.
After a downtrodden, disappointing year with the Catalan giants, Pjanić’s worth on the market has decreased significantly. Tottenham might just be able to convince Barcelona to sell him for no more than £20 million. That would mark a brilliant bit of business for Spurs, who could use a player of his skill set to complement Pierre Hojberg in the heart of midfield.
He could partner Hojberg as part of a two-man defensive midfield, allowing the likes of Giovanni Lo Celso or Tanguy Ndombele to play in a far more advanced, attacking role. The chances of landing Pjanić depend on whether a top Serie A team decides to show an interest in bringing him back to Italy.
If no Serie A side swoops in soon, Spurs are in with a real chance of securing his services.
