Worrying stats for Tottenham where Paulo Fonseca is concerned

Paulo Fonseca’s impending arrival as Tottenham Hotspur manager is fraught by a long list of concerning statistics from his time at Roma.  

While Tottenham’s reasons for appointing Fonseca are clear, a number of disconcerting, even woeful, trends surfaced during the 48 year old’s time at the helm of Roma. His stint at Shakhtar Donetsk was an undeniable success, as straightforward a tenure as you’ll see at the top level.

Though the absence of stiff competition allowed Fonseca and his Donetsk side an unimpeded path to glory. Shakhtar still had to do the on-field business, but it’s difficult to truly evaluate the gaffer on a reign completely devoid of adversity.

His time in the Serie A, however, told an entirely different story. A solid fifth place finish in his first year was followed by Roma ending the 2020-2021 campaign in seventh place. Here are the most notable failures from Fonseca’s two years in the Italian capital.
