Incoming sporting director Fabio Paratici has the relationship and influence to convince Paulo Dybala to join Tottenham Hotspur.

While admittedly premature considering the absence of a manager and Paratici’s unconfirmed status, it’s still worth looking at the resurfacing rumours of Dybala’s potential move to north London.

Dybala has been linked to Spurs for a few seasons, but a deal never materialized. Tottenham, during the summer of 2019, came close to securing Dybala’s services.

Signing Paratici opens new doors for Tottenham

The signing of Paratici is apparently a done deal, but nobody at Spurs will count their chickens until official confirmation of his appointment. Bringing the transfer specialist aboard will open opportunities for Spurs that didn’t previously exist, including the prospect of luring Dybala away from Paratici’s former club.

Under conventional circumstances, you’d expect Tottenham to wait for their next manager before dipping into the transfer market. Considering the current unnerving and unorthodox nature of ongoings at the club, Paratici, once confirmed, should push forward and do the business Spurs require before the summer passes us by. Heaven forbid Spurs ever replicate the infamous, ignominious inactive summer of 2018.

Paratici signed Dybala, who was 21 at the time, for £23m from Palermo in 2015, easily one of the Italian’s most astute signings.

The sporting director has a lot of influence where Dybala is concerned and could potentially convince the 27-year-old to give Spurs a go. But even Paratici’s influence with Dybala won’t help if Spurs hire a tier two manager the Argentine doesn’t want to work with.

It’s highly unlikely Spurs will complete a transfer of this magnitude without having an elite manager in place. Dybala, whose contract expires at Juventus next summer, will wait to see who Spurs decide on.

Until then, Paratici will plant the seed and hope Tottenham don’t mess it up by selecting the wrong gaffer.

Next. Conte still wants to join Tottenham, ball in club's court. dark

While Paratici’s forthcoming appointment conclusively represents Tottenham’s best chance of signing Dybala, a number of things have to go Tottenham’s way before it becomes a realistic possibility.

But at least, thanks to Paratici’s clout and previous dealings, Tottenham’s toe is in this particular door.
