Pressure is mounting on Tottenham to confirm the appointment of sporting director Fabio Paratici, who is expected to sign on the dotted line imminently.

To temper expectations, we all know what happened last time an Italian was expected to sign on the dotted line. On an aside, “imminent” and “signing” are two words that should never be used in the same sentence as Tottenham Hotspur.

Negotiations can fall through abruptly and without warning, especially when Daniel Levy is driving the conversation. One or two sticking points can lead to the disintegration of all preceding progress. Antonio Conte was as close to a sure thing as you get in professional sports, but that situation exploded in quintessentially Tottenham fashion.

So it would be naive to consider the prospective Paratici signing as a done deal. The longer we wait for confirmation, the more chance seeds of doubt have to flourish.
