Another mistake from Tottenham top brass that has gone under radar
By Gary Pearson
Juan Foyth has in all likelihood played his last match for Tottenham Hotspur, as Villarreal won’t pass up the chance to make the loan deal permanent.
The 23-year-old Tottenham loanee has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Spanish side under Unai Emery. Deployed at centre back, central defensive midfield and right back, the Argentine youngster has shown his versatility and adaptiveness since arriving in Spain.
Foyth has impressed most at right back, where just a few weeks ago he ran riot over Arsenal in a memorable Europa League semifinal first leg victory.
Football.london recently published a piece about the unlikelihood of Foyth’s return to Spurs, but the story has surprisingly gone under the radar otherwise.
Brought to Tottenham in 2017 thanks to Mauricio Pochettino, Foyth arrived on the scene still a teenager, wide-eyed and with the world at his fingertips. His inexperience and tender age made it hard to adjust to the demands and rigours of the Premier League, and almost impossible to crack the first team.
But his future in north London was still inarguably bright. Or at least it was until Tottenham’s higher ups signed off on a loan deal that included an option to buy. That decision has bitten Tottenham where the sun don’t shine, right in the gonads.
Foyth is currently needed at his parent club like never before. With rumours of Serge Aurier’s imminent exodus, Foyth could have come back and stepped immediately into the starting team. And based on the way he’s playing at Villarreal, I doubt he’d relinquish that role anytime soon.
Murphy’s Law is an adage that states: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong”.
It perfectly epitomizes how most of Tottenham’s decisions have gone this season. I would say it’s a comedy of errors, but there’s nothing amusing about the abundance of poor decisions Spurs’ top brass are responsible for.
Foyth is just another example.
Hopefully Villarreal take a note out of Tottenham’s book and make the unwise, shortsighted decision to let Foyth return to his parent club. Sadly, I don’t see the Spanish club wanting any part of our bad decision brigade.
