Defence

We all know who will backstop Spurs, as Hugo Lloris prepares for yet another Premier League test. The back four is a different situation entirely. Serge Aurier was dreadful against Leeds and, based on that performance, deserves to lose his spot. Matthew Doherty is waiting in the wings and should be given the nod.

Similar doubts arise on the left side of defence. While Sergio Reguilon wasn’t as dire as his wing back counterpart, the Spaniard also endured a nightmarish afternoon. He was always second best, dominated by a more lively and spirited Stuart Dallas. Reguilon also assisted Dallas’ goal, with Totenham’s left back almost knocking it into his own goal after getting his positioning all wrong.

Davies is still out injured, though, meaning Reguilon will get the nod at left back.

I think we’d all love to see Joe Rodon get the nod in the centre of defence. Mason should opt to pair him with Toby Aldeirweld. Eric Dier, another poor performer against Leeds, deserves to be relegated to the bench.

After a dismal display in Yorkshire, hopefully Mason has the wherewithal and cojones to tinker with his defensive personnel.
