Major factors that will help Gareth Bale at Tottenham next season
By Gary Pearson
A decision won’t be made on Gareth Bale’s future until the summer, but there are a few factors that should convince Tottenham to extend the Welshman’s loan.
"Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, said the Welshman had “a rough time under Mourinho” but proved his world-class status when used best, though insisted he was not willing to point the finger of blame at anyone."
It’s an obvious slight directed at Jose Mourinho and the way he handled Bale after the superstar’s return to fitness. Used sparingly, Bale felt that we was unable to build momentum from one match to the next. That certainly won’t be a problem next season if Spurs decide to extend his loan.
A new manager will probably offer Bale an entirely new platform to operate from. You’d expect Bale to play a much more influential figure in Tottenham’s starting team. Everyone hopes he can remain fit and healthy, two aspects of his storied career that have let him down in recent years.
Supporters in stands will galvanize Bale
The return of supporters to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will benefit Bale greatly, as much if not more than any other player. Bale’s all-anticipated return to Tottenham at the start of the season was slightly muted, even anti-climactic.
Bale left Tottenham in 2013 after ascending to superstar status with the north London club. The incredible, feverish support he received from Tottenham’s faithful buoyed Bale during his first stint at north London. There’s no doubt that Bale’s return to Tottenham was influenced heavily by how much he is beloved and venerated by supporters.
The pandemic stripped him of an opportunity to showcase his skills in front of 60,000 feverish, vociferous Tottenham supporters. It would be an injustice to see Bale leave before supporters get a chance to galvanize their adored Welshman.
And I have no doubt that support would elicit the best from Bale. While he shouldn’t require fanfare to play at his best, it would be naive to dismiss the impact 60,000 raucous partisan supporters would have on his overall output.
