Substitute and Coaching Rating

Ryan Mason used all three of his available substitutes in his first match in charge of the Spurs. Harry Winks was the first player Mason brought on with just under 20 minutes to go.

Winks – 6

Harry Winks will surely be some kind of trivia answer as the first substitute of the Ryan Mason era, however long it may be. Winks came on to help maintain control of possession in the midfield and he did just that. Not perfect passing but tough to be completely on the pace after sitting for over an hour.

Lamela – N/A

Erik Lamela came in for Giovani Lo Celso and ran around for his 12 minutes. Managed a few passes.

Bergwijn – N/A

Steven Bergwijn was back in the team and reappeared substituting for Gareth Blae with under 10 minutes to play. Stevie was trying to be active and find the ball but right now simply needs some minutes.

Mason – 7

Ryan Mason is not in an easy position by any means. While the first 10 minutes or so went okay for Tottenham, they were poor overall in the first half. The good news was whatever was said and done at halftime worked and Tottenham was a much better team in the second half. A long way to go but winning the first is always the best way to start.
