Tottenham supporters should unify in protest of Super League participation

Daniel Levy shows true nature… again

Not like we needed more proof, but his latest decision to involve Spurs in what is tantamount to a garish exhibition of exorbitantly paid footballers in a league conjured up by a set of narcissistic, vainglorious and barbarous owners, has yet again highlighted his true nature.

It’s infuriating, particularly in the midst of an economically crushing pandemic that has forced countless football clubs to the brink of solvency — if they haven’t already gone belly up — to see a select few benefit while the majority suffer deeply. That unfortunately sums up modern capitalism, where the rich get extortionately richer, continuously and astonishingly widening the disparity between the haves and have nots.

Don’t get me wrong, the thought of Tottenham doing battle every week against the world’s best clubs is alluring, but isn’t that what the Champions League is for? Sure, we probably won’t qualify for next season’s Champions League, but that will make it all the more rewarding next time we fairly qualify for the world’s most prestigious club competition.

Being ordained by a select few, primarily due to Tottenham’s financial upside, to participate in a made-up “Super League” is as unwholesome as it is undeserved.

We all know by now about Levy’s shrewd, callous persona. He is, above all else, a calculating business mogul whose preoccupation with the green stuff belies the ethos of club supporters. Tottenham’s loyal, hard grafting supporters have been personally affronted by the money-first direction in which Levy has forcefully taken our beloved club.

While I rarely agree with anything Gary Nevill says, his hard hitting opinion of the Super League’s proposed participants is right on the money.

Taking into consideration the universal condemnation of this absurdly proposed cash cow, I can’t conceive of the Super League being permitted to go ahead. Even if it does get stopped in its tracks by the likes of UEFA, FIFA and a cocktail of Europe’s domestic leagues, the irreparable damage to Levy’s already tarnished reputation has been done.

He, along with the other participating club owners who conduct themselves with utter disrespect, have in one foul swoop insulted everyone who loves football for the purity of the game.

Tottenham supporters should stand up and not rest until their voices are heard. This abomination simply cannot stand.
