Tottenham Midfield Ratings

It does not seem to matter whether Tottenham plays two, three, four, or five midfielders as they did against Everton, as the game progresses the group disappears. The first half of poor touches and passes led to a second-half where the midfield was mostly bypassed in both directions. Tottenham has a lot of holes and the middle of the park may be the biggest, as they again let the runner in to score.

Aurier – 5

Serge Aurier had a few moments in the match but on the whole, was mostly poor. In the first half, he was consistently giving the ball away and seemed a step slow defensively. Played better in the second half but hard not to have.

Ndombele – 6.5

Speaking of moments, Tanguy Ndombele had a few but was off the pace overall. Did play the cross that led to the first goal, thanks to a Michael Keane flick. Tried to dribble far too much in the first half but seemed to forget the ball. Was more active in the second half, but substituted as Tottenham went behind.

Sissoko – 4

Moussa Sissoko’s name was in the line-up and he was on the pitch and that is about as far as effort went. Was a complete passenger on both ends of the pitch. Only 30 touches in 90 minutes, completed only 23 passes. The hole that Sissoko creates offensively in the midfield is enormous. Unfortunately, he no longer makes up for that defensively. Zero tackles and interceptions are not making up for his inability or unwillingness to get on the ball and pass.

Højbjerg – 6

At this point, it is quite clear that Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is a real try-hard. Højbjerglooks for the ball and gets on it but lacks that quality with the ball to be a real playmaker. Picked up an early yellow card after Serge Aurier left him out to dry and was muted defensively since then. Needs rest and help.

Reguilón – 5

A very disappointing day for the Spaniard. Sergio Reguilón had a hard time staying on his feet and simply had little impact on the match. Completed only 12 passes as the midfield was bypassed most of the evening. Committed the foul or at least bungled into James Rodriguez for the Everton penalty and first goal. Was replaced late on by Lucas Moura who was lively.
