Spurs Starting Defense

The defense for Tottenham this season is another group that has weakened as the season has progressed. Mentally,  it has to be difficult to be in the film sessions knowing what you are going to see. However, the resiliency and fortitude to get through the tough times are what makes winners, maybe, just maybe Tottenham is developing some.

Reguilón – Left-back

Sergio Reguilón has not exactly wrapped himself in glory since the calendar turned 2021. First struck by injury and now plagued by inconsistent play, Reguilón needs to string together a few good matches, much like the rest of the Spurs’ defense. Sergio is a good attacking force but he needs to improve defensively. There is a reason both Madrid clubs passed on someone so talented and the Spurs got him but good coaching should help him overcome those deficiencies.

Alderweireld – Left Center Back

Toby Alderweireld is the oldest of the Tottenham center back options, but he is still certainly the best. Whether it is playing on the right – his preferred side – or the left, the Belgian should be the top choice. We have seen Eric Dier time and again not put a full 90 minutes together similar to Davinson Sanchez. Alderweireld should get the call moving forward.

Rodon – Right Center Back

Joe Rodon has been a common denominator of late for Tottenham defensively. The Welsh defender has shown tremendous spirit and determination in his play. While he has a mistake or two in him, they are more of the kind one sees from inexperience than inability. Continuing to get Rodon quality minutes in big situations to determine the full extent of the need at center back is really important. The question is do Spurs need one starter or two, Rodon can help answer that question.

Aurier – Right-back

Serge Aurier was excellent early in the season but has still yet to completely recover from the Leicester City match. Aurier is by no means terrible but his overall confidence and effectiveness have waned over the course of the campaign. Matt Doherty has been back at practice, but Aurier is the better choice and we are excited to think about what Aurier and Son together on the right could do.

Lloris- Keeeper

Hugo Lloris is of course the starting goalkeeper in our team. While we do not believe Lloris is still top five in the world or even in the league, he is the best of limited options at Tottenham at this time. Tottenham needs a leader, hopefully, Lloris can be one of them.

So that is the team we think can beat Everton Friday, what do you think, who should start for Spurs?
