Tottenham Defensive Ratings

Tottenham was marginally better defensively in that they simply did not pass the ball to the other team to set up a goal. That said, no one really bathed themselves in glory either. While individuals had moments of good individual defense, there was really no team defense as a unit.

Sergio Reguilón- 4

Whatever shine Sergio Reguilón had early in the season is long gone at this point. One could almost say Aaron Wan-Bissaka dominated Reguilón and kept him pinned back for most of the second half. The lack of any real attack from Reguilón who had only two crosses certainly lessened the Spurs’ effectiveness. Held Cavani on for the first goal and was unable to defend the cross on the winner.

Joe Rodon – 6

Joe Rodon was almost a bright spot for Tottenham making some key blocks and playing very confidently on the ball. Unable to really do anything on the goals conceded, at times Rodon looks a proper defender and maybe even a leader in the back. Hard to say as the defense is always so open.

Eric Dier – 4

Dier was an improvement over Davinson Sanchez. Simply the fact that Dier can head a ball more than 5 yards on clearance is an improvement at this point. Every defender knows to head up and out and Dier at least shows that. Did well to stand up for Rodon after a challenge from Cavani. Was not able to stick with Cavani on his goal or on the opener.

Serge Aurier – 4

Serge Aurier was only marginally better than Reguilón over on the right. Aurier did stick his nose-in consistently and tried to get forward. Of course Aurier – like the rest of the team – had no end product when he got forward. Was split by Cavani on multiple occasions as neither he nor Dier could pick him up.
