Tottenham Attack Rating

Tottenham had a little mojo going offensively in the first half. Kane was moving up and down the pitch dropping deep and then working into the box. Spurs were getting the ball wide but were still struggling to get service, which has been a hallmark failure this season. As the pressure grew in the second half, the Tottenham attack wilted away to nothing. Ultimately, a header from Pogba, to Cavani, that went off the post was the best chance for Spurs in the half.

Harry Kane – 4

Harry Kane did almost everything he needed to do in the first half as he did his little number 10 routine. His touch and layoff to Moura set up the Brazilian to create the Spurs goal. Kane had one real opportunity in the second half which was well saved by Dean Henderson with a strong boot. Outside of that effort, Kane was one of the chief ghosts in the second half, with only three total shots and little defensive pressure.

Heung-Min Son – 5

Heung-Min Son did well to finish with his left foot on the goal. Outside of that strike, the South Korean did little that impacted the match. Again and again, Son gets the ball on the run-out left and instead of letting the ball do the work and pushing the defender he cuts back into the defense and the play fizzles out. The inability to do anything behind Aaron Wan Bissaka who essentially stood at midfield or just on Tottenham’s side of it all day was criminal. Takeaway four corners and Son only attempted two crosses, simply not enough.

Lucas Moura -5

Lucas Moura seemed the one Tottenham player determined not to lose this match. Moura did an excellent job of getting the ball into his feet and working to turn and attack defenders.  His work running off Kane and his excellent ball to Son at the back post were just rewards for his consistent effort. However, that great ball disappeared – like so much for Tottenham – in the second half but Moura continued to grind defensively until he was replaced by Gareth Bale with just under 10 minutes to go.
