Tottenham Player Ratings from Disappointing north London Derby
By Aaron Coe
Ratings for Tottenham Offense
Including the rabona goal and two late free-kick attempts, Tottenham only had five total shots. Five, that is just not enough to beat anyone, let alone your archrival. With the exception of Lucas Moura, who had the desire but not the ability needed, Tottenham players were largely absent on the offensive end of the pitch.
Heung-Min Son – 5
Maybe it is unfair to give Son a rating considering he came off injured without contact less than 20 minutes into the match. However, in 19 minutes Sonny had all of four touches. One could blame that on the ability to get the ball to the South Korean but the lack of any real press from Son or his mates was clear from the off. Hopefully, Son is not seriously injured but his lack of intensity was apparent in his 20 minutes.
Lucas Moura – 7
Maybe the most disappointing aspect of the match was the lack of desire, drive, determination to win in a derby against our rivals. The one Tottenham Hotspur who was the exception to this was Lucas Moura who worked hard the entire match – regardless of where he played – worked to get on the ball and drive with it. Repeatedly it was Moura turning and dribbling trying to make plays. Got an accidental assist on a beautiful goal but needed more help.
Gareth Bale – 4
After several weeks of good play, Gareth Bale came crashing back down to earth today. Bale was needed more on the defensive end but was not there to help Doherty and just never found space out on the right. Was part of the offense not putting enough pressure on what is a suspect defense. Looked ready to come off and disinterested which seems odd for the circumstances.
Harry Kane – 4
Like Bale, Kane came back to earth from being just unplayable the last few weeks. Outside of an offside moment – he should do better than that on a free-kick – and hitting the post – on a second free-kick – Harry Kane was as invisible as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg for Tottenham. In a game screaming out for Kane to drop deep and help his defense get out Kane never found the ball or the ball never found him. Only had 25 total touches and both his official shots were free-kicks. Tottenham needed the do everything Harry Kane and got the opposite.
