Similar to Tottenham, yet prior to Jose Mourinho landing on his preferred defensive partnership, Arsenal haven’t been able to find continuity at the heart of defence. That lack of consistency has cost them dearly in the league table.

A mishmash of partnerships that has included David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Gabriel, Arsenal haven’t employed the same partnership for three straight matches since the end of January. At that point Luiz and Holding were Mikel Arteta’s preferred pairing. But things have since changed, with Luiz and Mari forming the Gunners’ tandem in the last two top flight matches.

That pair is expected to start against Tottenham on Sunday, which would make it the first time the same partnership has played in three successive matches since Arsenal lost to Wolves 2-1 on Feb. 2.

Tottenham’s attacking quartet will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a Luiz and Mari duo. While the pair are unbeaten in two matches, they have shown signs of vulnerability on both occasions.
