Midfield
Moussa Sissoko 6/10
Looks a bit too bulky, slightly slow sometimes in possession. Dispossessed a couple of times but the Frenchman was comfortable for the most part. He wasn’t really tested defensively.
Tanguy Ndombele 8/10
Tanguy Ndombele controlled the tempo in the first half, making a couple of incisive passes to match his on-the-ball dominance. He played a couple of suspect passes but was, on the whole, composed, calm and rather impressive. His control and ability to beat players in tight spaces is easily his single greatest asset. His trickery should have drawn a penalty early in the second stanza, but the ref missed it and, inexplicably, didn’t review it via VAR. Shocking!
Erik Lamela 8.5/10
One of Tottenham’s outstanding performers, especially in the first half, Erik Lamela carried on where he left off.
His tireless, incredibly hard work rate never ceases. He made up for his one poor clearing pass with multiple bright forward runs. Swivelling and spinning to leave two defenders in the dust, Lamela was unlucky not to bag the opener, as his prodded left-footed attempt came flush off the post for a ravenous Harry Kane to deposit. He also made a superb slide tackle, sprinting at full pace to rundown Mislav Oršić. Lamela is sneakily proficient at going to ground when tackling, a rarity for a player of his advanced position.
Son Heung-min 8/10
Another very bright display from the South Korean, showing more playmaking flair. He connected on one dazzling deep cross to his favourite target, Kane, who played a marvellous volleyed pass to Dele. The pass was unfortunately intercepted. Son got to the byline willy nilly to deliver numerous threatening balls. He was also on the receiving end of Kane’s remarkably precise distribution.
