Defence

Hugo Lloris 9/10

A great save early in the second half from a Joachim Andersen header to maintain Spurs narrow lead. Hugo Lloris followed up by making a brilliant low save about 10 minutes later. He was in command and saved Tottenham in an arduous second half. Not so much the amount of saves, but the timing and importance of them.

Ben Davies 7.5/10

Defended well. Had a few skewed clearances but didn’t commit any grave errors. Help kept a clean sheet, the most important of all stats.

Toby Alderweireld 7/10

Started quite poorly. He committed a few giveaways and was on the back foot a couple of times in the first half. Toby looks slow on the spin and has trouble back peddling. Toby isn’t able to get close to spritely, fleet of foot forwards, which showed on numerous occasions in the second half. He did make a few excellent, last-gasp clearances.

Davinson Sanchez 6/10

What a mixed bag from the Colombian. He was physically strong and showed athleticism in the first half but was also skinned in injury time, getting his body position all wrong. A strong standing tackle on Loftus-Cheek as the last man early in the second half highlighted one of his better moments. But Sanchez still looks disconcertingly susceptible, with a nightmarish moment overturned by VAR. He thudded an abysmal clearance attempt directly against Loftus-Cheek’s hand. It was the right call by the letter of the law, but Sanchez can consider himself extremely lucky to have VAR save his blushes.

Matthew Doherty 6.5/10

Looked lively but had some dubious moments too. He took no chances on numerous clearances but was also skinned a few times on the wing.
