Form and the Prior Meeting

The form of these two teams could not be any different at the moment. Burnley started the season terribly losing five of their first six, with the sixth a draw. Included in those five losses was a 0-1 loss to Tottenham. We know Tottenham won seven of their first 12 matches and had an 11 match unbeaten run.

Both teams struggled to start the new year, but Burnley has managed to find some form in February, whereas Spurs have struggled. Burnley has not really gone on a winning streak – never winning more than two in a row in league – they have only lost two of their last eight games. Tottenham of course has lost five of their last eight in League, so clearly these are teams with different form.

Tottenham and Burnley were different teams before

When Tottenham and Burnley met back in October, Spurs were in the midst of that 11 match unbeaten run, while the Clarets were in the throws of their losing streak. Still the match was a relatively close affair.

Tottenham had more possession 62/38 but Burnley took more shots 13/9 and Hugo Lloris had more saves with 3 compared to Pope’s two. The goal was later in the match – 76th minute – and was a Harry Kane to Heung-Min Son special, back when it seemed the two were unstoppable.

That match could have easily gone the other way but Harry Kane made a goal line clearance for Tottenham and Burnley had another goal ruled back for offside. In other words that match was close and we should expect the same this match.
