Defence

Hugo Lloris 8/10

Facing growing criticism, Hugo came up with a solid performance to help alleviate some pressure. The Frenchman made a brilliant reaction save on Vizinger’s close range header in the first, knocking it onto the bar to keep it 2-0. It was the type of save Lloris is known for, using his lightning quick reflexes to save his team’s blushes.

Ben Davies 6/10

Wasn’t tested much defensively and made the right passes going forward. It was a comfortable outing for the Welshman.

Toby Alderweireld 5.5/10

While the ratings for Toby and Eric might feel harsh considering the scoreline, both defenders were skinned by Dejan Joveljić, who created some problems for the centre back pairing. Wolfsberger also hit the bar twice, which could have turned the tide of an otherwise dominant performance.

Eric Dier 5.5/10

He gives off an aura of calm but often creates unnecessary work for himself and others. Often too blaze in possession, I’d like to see Dier pick up the intensity. He also struggled at times to deal with Joveljić and Vizinger.

Matthew Doherty 7/10

Was Spurs best defender on the night. He sprayed the ball around well, finding his teammates with some smart passes. Doherty also performed well defensively, easing the pressure that was mounting on the Irishman.
