At Spurs-Baggies Last Match

The last time these two teams met it was a closer match than Tottenham probably would have liked. Regardless, Tottenham got what they needed, which was the win. Harry Kane – who else – netted his 55th game winner in that match – fresh off his 200th team goal and 300th game for Spurs.

Besides Kane one other big start for Spurs on that evening was Sergio Reguilón, who had an all around performance contributing with dribbles, crosses, tackles, and interceptions. The other Spur who had a big evening and IS available still is Hugo Lloris. Lloris had a couple big saves in the last meeting and helped preserve the victory in Spurs 1-0 win.

What to Expect this Time

As far as West Brom are concerned, the last game has no impact on this one, as they have five new players and maybe most importantly a new coach and belief. Further, it actually may be to West Brom’s advantage that the match is being played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While West Brom have the same 1-3-7 (w-d-l) record home and away, Baggies are both better defensively and offensively away from home. The Bagggies have 11 of their 18 Premier League goals away from the Hawthorns and likewise have given up just 21 of their 52 goals at home.

While neither is a great record, with a -24 goal difference at home and a -10 difference away, clearly they are better away from the Hawthorns. Tottenham need to be prepared for this and jump on West Brom early. While the Baggies have given up five goals on four different occasions this season, only once has that been on the road. That said, Brighton way back in September is the only team that has not scored at home against the Baggies this season, so Spurs should find the net.

Depending on how quickly some of the new players adapt, it may determine how close the game is and for how long. Ultimately however, even with the players out they have, if Tottenham Hotspur play their game and do their jobs with the utmost seriousness they should be able to handle West Brom. If Tottenham cannot, well let’s cross that bridge if and when necessary.
