Tottenham Substitutes and Staff

Tottenham surprisingly used only two substitutes when the bench was relatively strong. While Bale is not the Gareth Bale of old, surely he can get up to bring at least a strong effort for 20 minutes, right? Instead we got Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura at the end of the match for the last 22 minutes. Both were active and bright, but it was far, far, too little too late for the team.

Lucas Moura – 5

Lucas Moura came on and immediately looked to attack with the football. It was nice to see someone try to at least inject some pace into the proceedings as Tottenham were so ponderous with the ball. Has a half chance he created, but was well off target.

Erik Lamela – 5

The Erik Lamela on Thursday was better than the Erik Lamela who played on Sunday, but is still not back to his full self. Did manage to get a shot on goal and force a save, but that was really about it.

José Mourinho – 1

The staff, led by José Mourinho seems to be doing much of nothing, hence they have even lost the right to be called coaches, because nothing discernable is being coached. The team looks lost and void of confidence and much of it lay at the feet of Mourinho at this point. Excuses are no longer acceptable, something drastic has to be done, either with the team or the leadership, because I have seen 6-year-old heard-ball will more energy and desire than we saw on Thursday. One of the biggest problems I can see is that much of team seems to believe – as most fans believe – they are set up to fail from the off. Further, playing not to lose is just running a team like Tottenham faster to the failure, which is why Spurs have always had such attacking sides. The coach like the team looks good and truly lost, what comes next are the fans. Spurs are VERY fortunate for the early run that has them well above relegation, because the form since December has been relegation like.
