With Kane Out, Carlos Vinicius Needs to Start for Tottenham on Sunday
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham, What was the Point?
Yes, Spurs have a decision to make. Yes, it seems this is a now or never moment in terms of playing Carlos Vinicius and yes, keeping everyone playing in their preferred positions by playing Spurs only other natural striker makes the most sense. However, most of all, one has to wonder if Carlos Vinicius does not play now, what was the point of the loan?
Maybe €3 million is something ENIC and Spurs can just afford to throw away. Whether or not Vinicius is purchased on a permanent the loan costs money. Further, when you look at the numbers and playing time, if Vinicius is only going to play in non-league matches, why is it not Troy Parrott.
Both Carlos Vinicius and Troy Parrott have played 14 matches on their respective loans this season. In fact Parrott – who we are asking to go on a new loan – actually has MORE minutes than Vinicius with 792 compared to Vinicius’ 533 minutes. While Carlos does have the six goals, we have to believe Troy Parrott could have done the job against Marine – where half those six goals came from.
The point is, if you are only going to play the man in developmental opportunities anyway, should we not be developing our own player. By the way, Carlos Vinicius is also taking up a previous, so very precious foreign player spot in in both the Premier League and even more importantly in Europa League. Troy Parrott could be part of the B-List in both opening room in the squad somewhere else. While not advocating for Parrott to return to Spurs now, the point is play Carlos or let’s move on.
Not giving Vinicius the run feeds the José and ENIC out crowds.
Most of all, if Carlos Vinicius is not played, extensively, starting with Brighton on Sunday it continues to feed those who already believe both José Mourinho and ENIC are mismanaging the club.
Wasting millions and a spot in the squad on a player who is not even going to do the job you brought him in for is total mismanagement. While I am not part of the get them out crowd, not using your assets in the most intelligent and best ways possible are how that changes. Ideally, Vinicius plays Sunday and shows what the €45 million kicker is all about. If he doesn’t and if Spurs lose, expect the noise of those disgruntled with the club to only grow.
