Tottenham Midfield Three

We at HotspurHQ really liked the four man midfield and the balance that was provided having just Pierre Højbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele in the middle of the park. With neither getting the call to start against Wycombe, Spurs revert back to two holding midfielders with Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko battling it out.

Moussa Sissoko (DMF)

Moussa Sissoko has been the partner for Pierre Højbjerg for much of the season and he again finds himself starting in the deep midfield for Spurs. In a switch back to last season before the Dane was part of the equation, Sissoko roams the field looking to protect the defense and create some attack. As the season moves on expect to see Sissoko used more and more in a utility role, but for Monday he is back in his normal slot.

Harry Winks (DMF)

Instead of Højbjerg and Sissoko, we see the old school Winks and Sissoko partnership. After some questions about Winks place in the squad, he seems to be finding his footing under José Mourinho. Winks is starting to understand that some games he needs to graft and do the little things versus try to be on the ball a bunch. Against Wycombe, while we need Winks to still do the little things, this will be one of those 100 touch nights for Harry Winks. The question is if he can drive the attack and turn those touches into positive movement or if we Spurs spend most of the night going sideways. This is a team Winks can and should dominate from the midfield, he needs to do that.

Erik Lamela (CAM)

With Dele Alli seemingly unavailable and Giovani Lo Celso definitely out, it would seem the #10 role drops to Erik Lamela almost by default. While we could see Tanguy Ndombele, like so many of the other starters for Spurs, he is being held in reserve for bigger fish later in the week. Lamela has not played much since November. Erik has played for 45 minutes across three appearances in the last two months. Hopefully this means Lamela is ready and can at least give the Spurs a dozen or so appearances. That may be asking too much, but Monday should not be.
