Tottenham Starting Defense

We have Ben Davies slotted in to start and after his press conference on Thursday, it sounds like there are issues with both Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier. Doherty had returned to practice based on pictures from Spurs twitter account, but expect a little rotation here, as Japhet Tangaga gets the call in the back.

Ben Davies (LB)

Ben Davies is our starting left back, as Sergio Reguilón is being held back for Liverpool in a few days time. Davies is steady, a good leader, and should be fine against Wycombe. They are strong on the right, but expect a little help for Davies from the left wing as well to ensure not too much trouble comes from the Wycombe right.

Joe Rodon (CB)

It is always a possibility to Eric Dier plays, but Joe Rodon makes sense for a lot of reasons. More rest for Dier ahead of Liverpool is one, the other is the aerial threat Wycombe provides as they do like to knock the ball into the box. Dier has struggled at times defending in the air this season, although some of it has been unlucky. The one Tottenham defender no one is concerned about in the air is Joe Rodon, who is massive and attacks the ball hard. Spurs need to get Rodon more involved and Monday is a chance.

Davinson Sanchez (CB)

While Toby Alderweireld makes sense here, again he is being saved for Liverpool. Also, there is a bit of a competition at current between Sanchez and Rodon, because if nothing changes between now and February, it is likely only 1 of the 2 defenders will be on the Europa League roster. Sanchez was for the Group Stages, but Rodon was not on the team when the decision was made. Letting the two battle to decide who should get that last spot makes good sense and this is a great opportunity for that.

Japhet Tangaga (RB)

With both Doherty and Aurier recovering from some kind of knock or illness, who knows these days, it makes sense for Tanganga to play. The reality is the opportunities for Tanganga to play are dwindling as the season progresses so finding time for the young defender when Spurs can makes sense. Given most of the rest of the youth in the first team has now gone on loan, Tanganga must be part of the plan and if so, Monday he has to play.
