Regardless of the rumour’s veracity, Tottenham Hotspur should never consider bringing Christian Eriksen back to the club he gave up on.

Silly season is certainly upon us, with farcical rumours making their rounds like a travelling circus. Even a carnival attendant making minimum wage who says he or she can predict your future should be taken more seriously than the latest Eriksen-back-to-Spurs rumours.

Heaven help us if there is merit in the prospect of the dashing Dane returning to Hotspur Way. Eriksen, who, hellbent on leaving North London, basically threw in the towel on his Spurs career last season.

I find the idea of him returning to Tottenham less desirable than running a marathon after participating in a hotdog eating contest.

Most supporters will look upon Eriksen’s time in Tottenham, aside from the final stretch, with sincere gratitude. The demure Dane was one of Tottenham’s most influential assets for the better part of a decade. And for that he’ll live forever in Spurs folklore.

But let’s not diminish the affect his unbecoming attitude in his final campaign had on his Spurs’ career. Unfortunately his behaviour tarnished his otherwise illustrious career in North London. Every player has the right to move on and look for a new, fresh challenge. But Eriksen made his bed and must now sleep it in for a longer than one would spend in a ramshackle, bedbug ridden hostel.

When motivated, inspired and in top form, we all know what Eriksen can bring to the pitch.

And regardless of the apathetic way in which he left Hotspur Way, most of us always wish him well. Unfortunately his best in North London is a thing of the past, comprised of a montage of highlights we can, for reasons of nostalgia, periodically look up on YouTube.

Next. A vulnerability Tottenham's defence need to solve. dark

Fond distant memories aside, most of us still have a residual bitter taste from how he unceremoniously departed Hotspur Way. I’d just like to remind Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho that the ticket Eriksen purchased to Milan less than a year ago did not include a return to London.
