Tottenham Offense Ratings

Tottenham Hotspur got things going offensively versus Leeds United, managing some 20 shots on the day. Of course, Kane and Son led the effort, but Steven Bergwijn did his part as well. The story with all three men was their activity combined with the ability to get on the ball. Kane, Son, and Berwijn were 4th, 5th, and 6th on Spurs in touches on the day, which is an incredibly positive sign for Spurs.

Harry Kane – 9

One could get nitpicky and talk about how Kane only had a 65% pass completion rate on the day. However, when you are making as many forward passes as possible and trying the things Kane is trying, it can be overlooked. Kane managed to get off six shots on the day and likely is disappointed not to get a brace. Dispatched his penalty perfectly and laid the picture-perfect pass into Son for the second. Cleared a few balls for good measure. When Harry Kane can get 50+ touches it is a good thing for Tottenham.

Heung-Min Son – 9

Like Kane, Son was not perfect as he had a couple rough touches, was disposed three times, and committed a needless foul. That said, the South Korean was excellent on the afternoon as he was all over Leeds from the kickoff. Son was relentless in his pressing and did a great job working hard to find the ball. His set piece balls are getting better and his corner to Toby Alderweireld for the third was terrific. After a few less than excellent performances, it was great to see Son on the ball – 50+ touches and doing things with it.

Steven Bergwijn – 7

Steven Bergwijn continues to do everything except produce the product. Bergwijn pressed well and ran hard. Just a step away from connecting on a couple through balls, creating possession with interceptions, Steven Bergwijn keeps popping up. The real problem is Bergwijn has not quite found his shooting boots this season. Bergwijn only got one of three attempts on frame and should have done better on a couple of scoring occasions. It would be nice for Bergwijn to finish the job and Spurs will need it, but his other work and interplay with Kane and Son keep him in the team.
