Tottenham Starting Attack

We know that Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane are going to start in two of the more advanced roles, it is always a question of who is going to join them. Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Gareth Bale, and Giovani Lo Celso have all taken turns at times over the last month joining Kane opposite Son. However, With spurs backs against the wall, Mourinho turns to a different Argentine.

Erik Lamela (RW)

After 30 minutes against Stoke, Erik Lamela played less than 10 against Wolves. Tottenham need his tenacity and continuous desire to push forward. Erik Lamela helps provide greater defense pressure and can put the other team off balance. Ultimately, Lamela brings some flare with a punch and Tottenham need a bit of both as they have grown stale and limp over the last month offensively. Erik can help change that; Spurs need more energy guys like Lamela on the team.

Harry Kane (ST)

Harry Kane is of course starting up front, although he does spend nearly as much time hovering near midfield trying to collect the ball. That is one of the issues for Spurs as the holding midfielders join the defense leaving no real midfield to connect with Kane as a striker, so he drops deep to replace them. Sometimes this works well, other times Kane just gets beat up like he did against Wolves and Spurs struggle to maintain possession. It would be nice to see Harry Kane with the ball where he is most likely to score, which is near the box and facing the goal on something that is a not a free kick.

Heung-Min Son (LW)

We are continuing to assume the Heung-Min Son will keep starting for Tottenham Hotspur. However, if Mourinho really wants to make a statement with his offense, replacing Son in the starting XI might do it. The South Korean has struggled of late, along with everyone else. However, Son is not finding the ball in attacking positions enough. After a run and shot in the first minute of the match against Wolves, it is hard to remember another such diagonal run the rest of the match. If Son is not running and attacking the defense, he is not at his best. Tottenham need to get Son the ball in some space.
