After a draw and a couple losses, it seemed like Tottenham Hotspur were losing pace in the Premier League, however, results leave room for Spurs to strike.

Tottenham could have entered the Sunday night game at Molineux in sole possession of ninth and a full nine points behind the leaders. Instead, Spurs are eighth on goal difference with a chance to go third and pull within four points of first place Liverpool. With the table breaking Tottenham’s way, can Spurs take advantage?

Points Dropped Everywhere

With Liverpool’s draw at home to West Brom it means six of the top ten teams in the Premier League have dropped points before Tottenham Hotspur have even taken the pitch today versus Wolves. Leicester City and Manchester United got things started as good as Spurs could have hoped with a late Jamie Vardy goal meaning the teams shared the spoils and left with only a point.

While Aston Villa and Manchester City – both with games in hand still – took care of business against bottom half teams, the same could not be said for Southampton, West Ham, and Chelsea. The Saints were held to a goalless draw with 18th place Fulham, while West Ham were drawn at home by 16th place Brighton and Hove Albion.

Of course, the big game was 15th place Arsenal beating Chelsea 3-1, likely keeping Mikel Arteta as coach for now for Gunners. More importantly denying Chelsea any points at all, keeps the Blues only ahead of Spurs on goal difference. Spurs now have a chance to make up ground on the leaders against Wolves Sunday evening.

Tottenham Lineup

To cut into that lead José Mourinho has decided to make some changes to his team and likely his system, opting for a 3-4-3 attack, which could easily morph into a five-back system with Sergio Reguilón and Matt Doherty as the wings in the 4-man midfield. Hopefully, this little change, which keeps Davinson Sanchez and Harry Winks from there strong showings midweek brings trouble to Wolves and proves effective for Tottenham.

Doherty – Winks – Højbjerg – Reguilón

Ndombele – Kane – Son
